5 Tools You Need To Clean Your Air Ducts

About Me
Hiring A Professional Cleaning Company

After we bought a foreclosure, I knew that we were going to need a little help with the place. The entire upstairs was covered in garbage, and the bathrooms looked like they had never been cleaned. It was discouraging, and I was worried about the place being unsafe for my children. I realized that I couldn't tackle the job on my own, so I started looking into hiring a professional cleaning service. I found a great cleaning company that could come out and begin work right away. They were amazing to work with, and they worked fast. This blog is all about why you should hire a professional cleaning service.

It is a good idea to clean out the air ducts in your home. Your air ducts supply all the air that heats and cools your home. You want that air to be nice and clean. One of the best ways to ensure that your air is clean is by keeping your ducts clean. If you want to clean your air ducts yourself, you need to make sure that you have the right tools for the job.

#1 Vacuum

You are going to need a vacuum in order to clean your air ducts. A regular household vacuum that has a hose attachment with a brush will get the job done. However, the best type of vacuum to use for the job is a shop-vac. Shop-vacuums usually have longer hoses that will allow you to reach further into your air ducts, they have a higher level of suction and they can suck up more dirt before they need to be emptied out.

#2 Brush

You are going to need a stiff brush to clean the inside of your air ducts. You are going to want to go with a stiff-bristle brush with long handle that you can move around. This will help dislodge dirt that is really stuck to the inside of your air ducts.

#3 Screwdriver & Hex Driver

You are going to need to remove fasteners throughout your duct system in order to access all of your duct systems. You will need to take apart parts of your duct system in order to reach and clean everything. Depending on the type of fastener, you should be able to loosen it up and remove it using either a screwdriver or a hex driver.

#4 Paper Towels

You are going to want to cover up the registers that you are not cleaning to ensure that dust doesn't blow back up through them. You are going to want to put paper towels on the top of your registers to catch any dust that blows back up through them as you are cleaning out your entire system. You are also going to want to put something heavy weight on top of the paper towels in order to ensure that the paper towels stay in place and are not blow away.

#5 Furnace Filter

Finally, you are going to want to invest in a new filter for your furnace as well. The two thing that will keep the air you breath clean are cleaning your duct system and changing out the filter on your furnace on a regular basis. After you put all that work into cleaning your ducts, you don't want to push air through a dirty filter. Once you are done cleaning up your ducts, make sure that you put in a new filter.

If you want to clean your air ducts on your own, you need a few specific supplies. You need a vacuum with a hose attachment or you need a shop vacuum. You also need a stiff brush, paper towels, a screwdriver or hex driver as well as a new filter for your furnace.
